Digital Nomads in Armenia

Armenia is an emerging destination for digital nomads and remote workers. Although it has no official digital nomad visa, Armenia offers many competitive advantages with worldwide digital nomad programs.

Learn how to enter Armenia as a digital nomad, work remotely with local and international clients, understand applicable taxes, banking, internet, entertainment, residence permits, and more.

The guide was created in collaboration with Life in Armenia magazine.

Visiting Armenia as a Digital Nomad

  1. Step 1

Learn About Visa Requirements for Entering Armenia

Armenia does not currently have a dedicated, formal digital nomad visa program. Many nationalities can enter Armenia visa-free or obtain a visa on arrival, which allows for extended stays. Check with the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for your visa requirements.

  2. Step 2

Plan Your Stay Duration for Tax Purposes

Foreign travelers (non-tax residents) in Armenia are not subject to Armenian income tax on their foreign-sourced income for stays of less than 183 days within a calendar year. If you plan to stay longer, you can apply for a temporary residence permit.

This residence permit offers more advantages than many digital nomad visa programs worldwide.

  3. Step 3

    Find Suitable Housing in Armenia

In addition to international marketplaces like Airbnb and Booking.com, local online marketplaces can be used to find accommodation. You can also check expat groups on social media, where many real estate brokers list their properties.

  4. Step 4

Set Up Banking and Internet Connectivity

Several Armenian banks will open accounts for non-residents. Digital nomads can use their international cards or phone payments nationwide. Getting a SIM card or eSIM is easy, even from the airport. Plus, Starlink is now operating in Armenia.

  5. Step 5

Connect with the Local Technology Sector

The Armenian tech startup ecosystem ranks 200th out of 1000 cities worldwide. The tech scene is active, with many local and international tech events, conferences, and summits held throughout the year. It's one way to meet other digital nomads and international remote workers in Armenia.
