Online Shopping and Shipping to Armenia
This guide provides the necessary information about online shopping from international marketplaces and arranging shipments to Armenia, even when the country is not officially listed as a direct destination on these platforms.
What is Freight Forwarding?
Some online shopping platforms don't ship directly to Armenia. To solve this, you can use the services of a freight forwarder, such as Globbing or ONEX.
They provide each user with a dedicated virtual address at their warehouses in various countries, such as the United States and China. You can then use this virtual address as your shipping address when shopping online.
The freight forwarder will receive your packages at their warehouse and consolidate them with other shipments to Armenia, offering regular, often more cost-effective, bulk shipping to Armenia.
Online Shopping Steps
Step 1
Get a Virtual Address Outside Armenia
Freight forwarders like Globbing and ONEX provide each user with a unique virtual address and, in some cases, a virtual phone number in countries like the United States and China. These forwarders maintain warehouses at these addresses, serving as consolidation points for packages from various online retailers.
Step 2
Shop Online from Your Favorite Marketplace
You can shop online using your new or existing account on platforms like Amazon, Shein, or AliExpress. Selecting and purchasing items remains the same, and your payment and personal information will remain the same. The only change is the shipping address you'll provide.
Step 3
Change Your Shipping Address and Information
When you shop online, you use this assigned virtual address as your shipping destination. The retailers then send your purchases to the forwarder's warehouse at that address. Your shipment will be consolidated with other shipments and sent to Armenia.
Step 4
Pay Freight Forwarding Fees and Receive Your Packages
Freight forwarders have pickup points throughout the country. You can choose a convenient location for your shipment to be delivered for pickup. Before collecting your package, you'll need to pay the freight forwarding fees, usually through online payment apps or payment terminals on the streets.
Shipping Cost, Customs Duty, and Time
Shipping costs vary depending on several factors, including the chosen freight forwarder and the actual weight of the package (excluding oversized parcels). For example, Globbing's air delivery rate from China to Armenia is AMD 7,900 per kilogram for parcels weighing 2 kilograms or more.
When placing an order with a freight forwarder, you'll be asked to declare the actual price you paid for the items. Providing accurate pricing information is important to avoid complications.
Customs duties apply to each shipment if the total weight exceeds 31 kilograms or the declared value exceeds €200. Any excess value will be taxed at 15%, while excess weight will incur a charge of at least €2 per kilogram.
