Exchange a Child's (Under 16) Passport Abroad

A passport for a Republic of Armenia citizen under 16 years old, residing in a foreign country, is replaced upon application by one parent or legal guardian.

To apply to exchange a child's passport, it is necessary to visit the Armenian embassy or consulate of the given country by booking a visit in advance, and if you are unable to visit the embassy or consulate, by identifying yourself via video conference.

The passport is exchanged if:

  • The validity period has expired
  • The citizen has changed the data about him/her in the state population register included in the passport.
  • The citizen has lost the passport
  • The passport contains incorrect data
  • The pages of the passport intended for affixing entry visas have been filled.
  • The citizen has expressed such a desire.

If a person is in a country with no Armenian embassy or consulate or in a remote location where it is impossible or difficult to contact the nearest Armenian embassy, ​​he or she can apply via video conference to exchange the passport of an Armenian citizen.

One of the parents or a legal representative (guardian) applies to exchange the passport of a citizen of the Republic of Armenia for a child under 16. It is desirable for the child to be present during the video call.

It is necessary to send an email to the email address [email protected], writing the applicant's first name, last name, and passport number in Latin letters in the subject line.

The following information must be included in the text of the letter:

  • Applicant's name, surname and patronymic
  • Date of birth
  • Passport number
  • Mobile phone number
  • Location (country, region, city)
  • Attach a copy or photo of the passport
    • In case of obtaining a passport for the first time, a foreign passport
    • In case of a minor, a birth certificate and copies or photos of the parents' passports
  • Convenient days and time range for conducting a video call, indicating the time zone

After the video conference, it is necessary to send the documents required to obtain the child's RA citizen passport to the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs via postal service.

Requirements

To exchange a passport for a citizen of the Republic of Armenia under the age of 16, the child must:

  • Be registered in the State Population Register
  • If you are a male citizen who turns 16 during the given year, you must undergo military registration.

Required Documents

The following documents must be submitted to the relevant embassy or consulate:

  • Application for a passport
  • 4 photos measuring 35x45 mm
  • The child's passport to be exchanged, and a copy of its pages 2-5
  • The parents' passports and copies of their pages 2-3
  • The parents' marriage certificate and a copy of it
  • A receipt for paying the state fees

Additional Documents Required

In some cases, additional documents may be required from a person when applying for a passport, in particular:

If the parents' marriage was not registered before the child's birth:

  • A certificate of recognition of paternity
  • A certificate of being a single mother
  • A death certificate of the parent
  • A court decision declaring the parent missing or deceased

In addition, it is necessary to submit one of the mentioned documents and a copy of it.

Payment Amount and Procedure

If you apply via videoconference, you will need to pay 90,000 AMD to exchange your passport. Payment must be made online.

You will also need to pay for individual postage. The fee is 12,500 - 20,500 AMD, depending on the country. Payment for postage must be made online.

Delivery Period and Procedure

The new passport is issued within 2-3 months after applying.

The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia sends the passport by personal mail to the address specified by the applicant in the foreign country.

After sending the passport, the applicant is sent a tracking number of the postal item via e-mail, through which it is possible to track the progress of the item online.
