What are the Financial Benefits of Having a Child?
This guide provides necessary information on the provision of benefits when having a child, including the conditions for receiving them and their amounts.
Parents of a newborn child are eligible for several types of benefits, such as a lump-sum maternity benefit, a lump-sum birth benefit, a monthly allowance for caring for a child up to two years of age, and monthly allowances for the birth of a third and subsequent child.
Maternity Lump Sum Benefit
This is a one-time benefit provided to parents of a newborn child. This benefit compensates for lost wages (income) due to temporary incapacity for work during pregnancy and maternity leave.

It is assigned based on a certificate of temporary incapacity for work issued by a medical institution and is paid by the state.

Lump Sum Maternity Benefit in Case of Premature Birth
A premature birth is when the baby is born between the 22nd and 37th weeks of pregnancy (starting from the 154th day).

Provided for pregnancy and maternity leave. However, if the child is born prematurely prior to the start of pregnancy leave, the lump sum maternity benefit is provided only for maternity leave.

The benefit is calculated and provided based on the average salary for the calendar days that fall within maternity leave.
The lump sum benefit provided by the state in case of premature birth is 86,349 AMD.

Childbirth Lump Sum Benefit
A lump sum birth allowance is financial support provided by the state to the family of a newborn child. Its purpose is to improve the demographic situation and stimulate birth rates.
- 300,000 AMD for the birth of the first and second children
- 1,000,000 AMD for the birth of the third and fourth children
- 1,500,000 AMD for the birth of the fifth and subsequent children

The child's parent, adoptive parent, or guardian is entitled to receive a lump sum birth benefit.

The benefit is provided if the parent and the newborn child are registered at their place of residence in the Republic of Armenia and are in the Republic of Armenia as of the date of application.
A lump-sum birth benefit is assigned to a foreign citizen parent if:
- As of the date of the newborn child's birth, the parent has been registered at their address of residence in the Republic of Armenia for at least 3 consecutive years.
- No lump-sum benefit has been assigned (paid) in connection with the child's birth in any foreign country.

Monthly Allowance for Childcare (Up to Two Years of Age)
It is a monthly state-provided benefit for the care of a child up to two years of age. Applications for this benefit can be submitted at least two days after the end of pregnancy and maternity leave (70 days after the birth of the child).
For children born before January 1, 2023

You can receive a childcare allowance for children under two years of age if:

You are on leave to care for a child under three years of age and applied for the allowance before the child turns two years old.

You are registered in a rural area and have resided at that address continuously for at least one year as of the date of application for the allowance.

If you are a foreign citizen, you can receive a childcare allowance for children under two years of age if you meet the above conditions and have been registered at your place of residence in the Republic of Armenia continuously for at least three years as of the date of your child's birth.
You can receive the allowance in person, through an authorized representative, or by electronic transfer.

You can receive a childcare allowance for children under two years of age if:
- You are on leave to care for a child under three years of age, and you applied for the allowance before the child turns two years old.
- You are registered in a rural area and have resided at that address for at least one year in a row as of the date of application for the allowance.
- If you are a foreign citizen, you can receive a childcare allowance for children under two years of age if you meet the above conditions and have been registered at your place of residence in the Republic of Armenia for at least 3 years in a row as of the date of your child’s birth.
- You can receive the allowance in person, through an authorized person, or by electronic transfer.
The department was formed in accordance with the RA Government's Resolution No. 2069-N of November 30, 2023.
Monthly Allowance for Third and Subsequent Children
To improve the demographic situation and stimulate the birth rate, the state provides monthly support for the birth of the third and subsequent children. This benefit is provided until the child reaches the age of 6.
The amount of the benefit is 50,000 AMD. Support is provided for the third and subsequent children born after January 1, 2022.
Support is provided if:
- The child's parent is a citizen of the Republic of Armenia.
- As of the date of application, the parent and the newborn child are in the Republic of Armenia.
- As of the date of application, the parent, the newborn child, and the children considered in determining the child's birth order are registered in the State Population Register of the Republic of Armenia.
- Moreover, if multiple children are born simultaneously (e.g., twins or triplets), support is assigned to each child based on their birth order. For instance, if a family has one child and then gives birth to twins, financial support would be provided to both newly born children.
