Obtain a Death Certificate
A death certificate is an official state document verifying a death and is issued with a unique identification number. The certificate includes the deceased's name, identification document number, and their dates of birth and death.
Without a death certificate, it is impossible to carry out any procedures related to the death, such as receiving a funeral benefit, managing the deceased's obligations, or even organizing the burial.
How to apply
To register a death with the state and obtain a death certificate, it is necessary to visit a territorial office of the Civil Status Acts Registration Agency
Required documents
The following documents must be submitted to the CSARA:
- The applicant's identification document and its copy,
- the passport of the deceased,
- a death certificate (medical notice) and the conclusion on the cause of death issued by a pathology center or a physician.
Processing time and procedure
The hard copy of the death certificate is provided on the same day the application is submitted.
If necessary, it is also possible to obtain a duplicate of the death certificate online (including duplicates of paper certificates issued prior to 2021).
