Obtaining Armenian Citizenship
Ethnic Armenians, foreign nationals, refugees, and stateless persons can submit their preliminary application for Armenian citizenship through the electronic management system for citizenship affairs.
How to Apply
To apply for Armenian citizenship, you must first submit a preliminary application through the Electronic Citizenship Case Management System.
After clicking the "Continue" button to access the service, you will need to:
- Register and log in to your personal account,
- select the "Applications" section from the menu,
- create a new application,
- select the type of service,
- choose the legal basis for your citizenship application,
- on the next page, verify your identity by uploading scans of your passport and birth certificate,
- if there are any discrepancies or changes in your data, attach a supporting document,
- upload a 35x45 mm photo,
- verify your personal details (you can add an additional residential address and phone number),
- attach the required documents based on your chosen application category,
- provide details of close relatives (optionally),
- check that all information is complete and submit the application,
- pay the state fee by clicking the corresponding button.
Requirements
The following individuals (aged 18 and over and legally capable) who do not currently hold Armenian citizenship may apply:
- Those living or staying in a foreign country, or
- those living or staying in Armenia on a legal basis.
Required Documents
The documents required for your application vary depending on the legal basis of your claim.
Documents to be attached according to the category:
- Documents for applying based on Armenian ethnicity,
- Documents for applying based on 3 years of residence in Armenia,
- Documents for applying based on marriage to an Armenian citizen,
- Documents for applying based on having an Armenian citizen parent or child,
- Documents for applying to restore former citizenship,
- Documents for applying based on refugee status,
- Documents for applying based on statelessness,
- Documents for applying based on parents (or one parent) having previously held Armenian citizenship.
Payment Amount and Procedure
After uploading all required documents and filling in your details, you must pay the state fee online within the system.
The state fee for obtaining citizenship is 50,000 AMD.
Once your documents are attached, the system will redirect you to the secure online payment page.
Processing Time and Procedure
Within 15 working days of submitting your application, you will be notified via email and the platform regarding the approval of your preliminary application.
If required translations are missing or documents do not meet the criteria, the application will be sent back for corrections. You will have 10 working days to fix these issues.
If approved, you will receive a notification to select an appointment date. You must then visit the Migration and Citizenship Service (MCS) office or an Armenian Embassy/Consulate at the scheduled time with the originals of all documents.
Attention
After your documents are verified, foreign citizens are required to pass a test on the Constitution of Armenia and the Armenian language, which is also conducted through the electronic system.
