Obtain Armenian Citizenship if The Applicant is of Armenian Descent
A person of Armenian nationality may be eligible to obtain citizenship. To obtain Republic of Armenia (RA) citizenship, it is necessary to apply in person at the Passport and Visa Department (OVIR), located at 17/10 Davtashen, 4th District. It is necessary to book an appointment in advance.
When booking a visit, it is necessary to indicate the details of the person who will personally appear for the reception. Individual registration is required for each visitor, regardless of age.
Moreover, the registration of elderly people is carried out separately, and to obtain information about this, it is necessary to contact the relevant passport department.
To Register Online:
- After identification, fill in the required data (first and last name must be filled in Armenian, as written in the passport) and click the “Next page” button
- On the page that opens, enter your e-mail address and phone number, then the code sent to your e-mail
- In the “Visit Reservation” field on the page that opens, select the department located at 17/10, Davtashen, 4th district
- You must fill in the data of the person for whom the application is submitted
- In the “Select Day and Time” window, select the most suitable option from the available days and times.
Requirements
To obtain RA citizenship based on being Armenian by nationality, it is necessary to:
- Confirm being of Armenian descent.
- Proficiency in Armenian and familiarity with the RA Constitution are not required.
Required Documents
On the day and time of the intended visit, it is necessary to submit the following documents to the passport department (also known as the OVIR):

Application (provided on site) addressed to the President of the Republic of Armenia

Passport and its copy (for stateless persons - their ID card and its copy, or travel document and a document confirming the status of residence in the Republic of Armenia and its copy)

6 photos measuring 35 x 45 mm

Birth certificate and its copy

Document confirming nationality (birth certificate, passport, or any other identity document of any family member or baptism certificate issued by a church structure of a Diaspora community and certified by the consulate)

Receipt confirming payment of state duty
Payment Amount and Procedure
When applying for Armenian citizenship, you must pay 1,000 AMD.
Payment can be made by one of the following:
- On-site via a payment terminal
- Online
- At any bank by transferring to account number 900005162111
- Through the banking application
- If you cannot transfer to this account number in the banking application, please select the "Transfer to state budget" option).
Delivery Period and Procedure
After submitting the application, the person's application is considered within 90 working days.
After submitting the citizenship application to the passport department, the applicant receives an SMS message with his application number, which he can use to track the application's progress.
If the application for RA citizenship is approved, the person is notified via SMS, after which he or she can apply for an RA citizen's passport.
