Moving your Belongings to Armenia without Customs Duty

How to move your belongings to Armenia?

  1. Step 1

    Check your citizenship or residency status

    To move your belongings to Armenia, you should have RA citizenship or a special or permanent residence permit in the Republic of Armenia.

  2. Step 2

    Check if your items qualify for importing without customs duty

    Check the list and amount of the items you can import free of customs duty (e.g. household or personal items, furniture, vehicles, etc.).

  3. Step 3

    Prepare the documents to confirm you are a new repatriate and submit to police for confirmation

    Prepare the documents to confirm that you are an RA citizen - the RA citizen passport, or that you have a special residency - a special passport, or permanent residency in the RA - permanent resident card.

  4. Step 4

    Prepare the documents for the goods you are shipping

    Prepare the documents - shipping lists, waybills, and information about address rules for the goods you are shipping.

  5. Step 5

    Send the proof of residency and shipping documents to the customs

    After preparing the proof of citizenship or residency and the shipping documents, send all the documents to the Customs Service of the SRC of the Republic of Armenia by email or post.

  6. Step 6

    Wait for approval and collect your items

    The customs will decide within up to 10 days whether to allow the import of items without customs duties or not. If your application is approved, you can receive your items at your shipping company (in case of vehicles - only at the Customs Service).

Citizenship and residence statuses permitting belongings transfer to Armenia

To move your belongings to Armenia free of customs duty, first, you must have one of the following statuses: citizenship of the RA, special or permanent residency in the RA.

  • RA citizenship allows you to buy and own real estate and movable property in Armenia, get free healthcare services, enroll your child in kindergarten and school, and participate in the elections and obliges you to serve in the RA armed forces.
  • Special residency status allows foreigners of Armenian descent to live in Armenia on legal grounds for 10 years, to buy and own land, and to have many more privileges. Special residency holders cannot participate in the elections and are not obliged to serve in the military.
  • Permanent residency allows foreign citizens of Armenian descent (and other foreigners) to live in Armenia on legal grounds for 5 years and have the privilege of free healthcare.

In what cases can you move your belongings to Armenia?

To move your belongings to Armenia free of customs duty, you should make sure your citizenship or residence status qualifies for using the service, what kind of items you can transfer without customs duties, and in what amounts, get informed about the transfer conditions, in order to make the process easy and smooth.

Required documents

First of all, you should get a document from the Citizenship and Migration Service of the RA Ministry of  Internal Affairs proving that you are a repatriate and that you have not lived in Armenia for a minimum of 1280 days (nearly 3,5 years) in the past 7 years. After getting the document, you will be able to submit all your documents to the Customs Service to move your belongings to Armenia without customs duty.
