Register a birth
The birth of every person born in the Republic of Armenia must be registered. A birth certificate is issued when the child's birth is registered.
If needed, you can also get a duplicate of the certificate online (including duplicates of paper certificates issued before 2021).
To register a child's birth, you must apply to the Civil Registry Agency (CRA, also known as the Russian term ะะะะก). Applications can be submitted through service centers or medical institutions.
For Armenian citizens living abroad, birth registration is carried out by Armenian consular offices in those countries.
Required Documents
For state registration of birth, it is necessary to submit:
- An extract from the medical birth document, which the doctor will provide
- If the child's parents are married, then the document confirming the state registration of the parent's marriage or the data of the marriage act
- If the document confirming the marriage of the child's parents was issued in another country, it is necessary to submit an Armenian translation of the document by a licensed translator.
- In case of the death of the child's parent, the document confirming the state registration of death or the data of the death act
- In case of the divorce of the child's parents, the document confirming the divorce or the data of the divorce act
- In case of birth outside a medical institution and without medical assistance, the DNA test and a document confirming the age and gender of the child, which is provided by the medical organization or the guardianship and trusteeship body of the child's place of residence
- In case of birth with the help of a surrogate mother, the contract signed with the surrogate mother and the child, his/her biological mother, and the surrogate mother's DNA test
- Identity documents of the child's parents
- If the original documents are in another language, their Armenian translation, certified by a licensed translator, must also be submitted.
Delivery Period and Procedure
The birth certificate is sent to the email address specified in the application within 1 working day after the application. If requested, it can also be obtained in paper form.
Attention
If the child's parents have a marriage certificate, the father can submit the state registration documents for the birth, but if they do not, the mother's presence at the Civil Registry Office is mandatory.
