Register a Birth and Get a Birth Certificate
Every baby born in Armenia must be registered. After the birth registration, a birth certificate is issued.
You can also get a duplicate of the birth certificate online if necessary (including duplicates of paper birth certificates issued before 2021).
To register the birth of a child, you must apply to the Civil Status Acts Registration Agency. Applications can be submitted through service centers (use the browser's translation tool to view the English version) or medical institutions.
For Armenian citizens living abroad, birth registration is carried out by the Armenian embassies and consulates.
Required Documents
For state registration of birth, it is necessary to submit:
- An extract of the medical birth certificate provided by the doctor
- If the child's parents are married, the marriage certificate or data on the marriage civil status act
- the parents' identity documents.
In some cases, other documents may be required:
- If the document confirming the parents' marriage was issued in another country, the Armenian translation by a certified translator must be submitted.
- In case of the death of the child's parent, the death certificate or data on the death civil status act.
- In case of the divorce of the child's parents, the divorce certificate or data on the divorce civil status act.
- In case of birth outside a medical institution and without medical assistance, a DNA test and a document confirming the child’s age and gender issued by a medical organization or the guardianship and trusteeship body at the child’s place of residence.
- In case of birth with the help of a surrogate mother, the contract with the surrogate mother, as well as the DNA tests of the child, its biological mother, and the surrogate mother.
- If the original documents are in another language, their Armenian translations by a certified translator must be submitted.
Delivery Period and Procedure
The birth certificate will be sent to the email address mentioned in the application within 1 working day. If necessary, it can also be provided on paper.
Attention
The mother's presence at the Civil Status Acts Registration Agency is mandatory if the parents do not have a marriage certificate. If the parents have a marriage certificate, the father can present the required documents to the Civil Status Acts Registration Agency.
