Obtaining Armenian Citizenship Abroad if The Applicant's Parent is an Armenian citizen

A person can obtain Armenian citizenship if one of their parents is an Armenian citizen or was born in Armenia.

To obtain Armenian citizenship abroad, you must apply in person at the Armenian embassy or consulate in the relevant country, having booked an appointment in advance.

When booking an appointment, it is necessary to indicate the details of the person who will personally appear for the reception.

After Clicking the "Book an Appointment" Button, you must:
  • Select the website of the embassy of the country where the application will be submitted
  • Click on the “Book an Appointment” button on the left side of the page
  • In the window that opens, select the “Granting or Termination of Citizenship” option
  • Select the most convenient option from the available days and times
  • On the page that opens, fill in your personal information and confirm the reservation

Requirements

One of the person's parents must have previously been a citizen of the Republic of Armenia or be born in the Republic of Armenia. In this case, the person may apply for RA citizenship within 3 years after turning 18.


Required Documents

On the day and time of the scheduled visit, it is necessary to submit the following documents to the relevant embassy or consulate:

  • Application addressed to the President of the Republic of Armenia,

  • Passport and its copy (for stateless persons - their ID card and its copy, or travel document and document confirming residence status in the Republic of Armenia and their copies),

  • 6 photos measuring 35x45 mm,

  • Birth certificate and its copy,

  • Receipt of state duty payment.

Attention

If, at the time of a child's birth, one parent is a foreign citizen or stateless, that parent's written consent is required for the child to be granted Armenian citizenship and an Armenian passport.

Payment Amount and Procedure

To obtain Armenian citizenship, you must pay 1,000 AMD. Payment must be made online in advance.

Delivery Period and Procedure

The application of a person is considered within 90 working days after its submission, after which the applicant is informed by e-mail about the approval or rejection of the citizenship application. The application process can be followed online (by the application number received by e-mail after applying).

 

After the application for citizenship is approved, in order to obtain a passport of a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, it is necessary to apply again to the Embassy or Consulate of the Republic of Armenia of the given country. The passport printed in the Republic of Armenia is sent to the given country by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
