Obtain RA Citizenship if The Applicant is Married to an RA Citizen
A person can obtain citizenship if married to a citizen of the Republic of Armenia. To obtain RA citizenship, it is necessary to physically apply to the Passport and Visa Department (also known as OVIR) located at 17/10, 4th district, Davtashen, by booking a visit in advance.
When booking a visit, it is necessary to indicate the details of the person who will personally appear for the reception. Individual registration is required for each visitor, regardless of age.
Moreover, the registration of elderly people is carried out separately, and to obtain information about this, it is necessary to contact the relevant passport department.
To Register Online, You Need:
- After identification, fill in the required data (first and last names must be filled in Armenian, as written in the passport) and click the “Next page” button
- On the page that opens, enter your e-mail address and phone number, then the code sent to your e-mail
- In the “Book a Visit” field on the page that opens, select the department located at 17/10, Davtashen, 4th district
- You must fill in the data of the person for whom the application is submitted
- In the “Select Day and Time” window, select the most suitable option from the available days and times
Requirements
To obtain citizenship based on marriage to a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, you must:
- Be in a registered marriage with a citizen of the Republic of Armenia within the last 2 years before submitting the application
- Have lived in the Republic of Armenia for at least 1 year during those 2 years or have a child who is a citizen of the Republic of Armenia.
Required Documents
On the day and time of the scheduled visit, it is necessary to submit the following documents to the Passport and Visa Department (also known as the OVIR):
- Application addressed to the President of the Republic of Armenia
- Passport and its copy (for a stateless person - his/her ID card and its copy, or travel document and a document confirming the status of residence in the Republic of Armenia and its copy)
- 6 photos measuring 35 x 45 mm
- Marriage certificate and its copy, spouse's passport and its copy, or a certificate of spouse's citizenship
- Child's birth certificate and its copy or the child's RA citizenship certificate and its copy or the child's RA passport and its copy
- Receipt confirming payment of state duty
Payment Amount and Procedure
When applying for Armenian citizenship, you must pay 1,000 AMD. Payment must be made online in advance.
Delivery Period and Procedure
After applying, the application is reviewed within 90 working days. Applicants receive an SMS message with their application number after applying for citizenship at the Passport and Visa Department. This number can be used to track the application's progress.
If the application for Armenian citizenship is approved, the applicant will be notified by SMS message and can then apply for an Armenian passport.
