Acquiring RA Citizenship on the Basis of Marriage
A person may acquire citizenship of the Republic of Armenia if, prior to submitting the application for RA citizenship, he or she has been in a legally registered marriage with an RA citizen for the last two years and has legally resided in the Republic of Armenia for at least 365 days during that two-year period.
To acquire RA citizenship, the applicant shall personally visit the Department for Citizenship Granting of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, located at 17/10, 4th District, Davtashen, Yerevan. An appointment shall be booked in advance via the migration-e.gov.am website or the EarlyOne mobile application.
The service is available in person and requires a prior appointment.
When booking, it is necessary to provide the details of the individual who will personally come to the appointment. Each visitor, regardless of age, shall have a separate appointment. Notably, persons over the age of 75 are served on a walk-in basis (“live queue” format).
Moreover, the registration of elderly people is carried out separately, and to obtain information about this, it is necessary to contact the relevant passport department.
To Register Online, You Need:
- After identification, fill in the required data (first and last names must be filled in Armenian, as written in the passport) and click the “Next page” button
 - On the page that opens, enter your e-mail address and phone number, then the code sent to your e-mail
 - In the “Book a Visit” field on the page that opens, select the department located at 17/10, Davtashen, 4th district
 - You must fill in the data of the person for whom the application is submitted
 - In the “Select Day and Time” window, select the most suitable option from the available days and times
 
Attention
The appointment request is considered confirmed only if you have received a corresponding notification at your email address.
Requirements
To obtain citizenship based on marriage to a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, you must:
- Be in a registered marriage with a citizen of the Republic of Armenia within the last 2 years before submitting the application
 - Have lived in the Republic of Armenia for at least 1 year during those 2 years or have a child who is a citizen of the Republic of Armenia.
 
Required Documents
On the day and time of the scheduled visit, it is necessary to submit the following documents to the Passport and Visa Department (also known as the OVIR):
- application form;
 - valid passport issued by a foreign state and the carbon copy thereof;
 - six photos (colored) measuring 35 mm x 45 mm;
 - birth certificate and the carbon copy thereof;
 - marriage (or divorce) certificate and the carbon copy thereof and a copy of the passport of the spouse (if the applicant has changed his or her surname due to marriage);
 - a document regarding the change of personal data (if the person has made such a change);
 - document confirming legal residence in the Republic of Armenia։
 - document attesting the payment of relevant state duty.
 
Documents drawn up in a foreign language shall be submitted with a notarized translation into Armenian language.
Applicants who are not of Armenian origin shall take a test on the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia at the time of submitting their application for RA citizenship.
Applicants born after November 28, 1981, shall also submit their parents’ identity documents and their parents’ marriage certificate (in its absence – a certificate of paternity recognition, a certificate confirming single motherhood, or a death certificate).
Payment Amount and Procedure
When applying for Armenian citizenship, you must pay 50,000 AMD.
Payment can be made on site via payment terminal, online, or at any bank in Armenia by transferring the amount to account number 900005160529.
Delivery Period and Procedure
The application is reviewed within 90 working days after submission. Once the application is submitted, the applicant receives a personal tracking code via SMS (linked to the application number) or by email, which can be used to monitor the status of the application.
If the application for Armenian citizenship is approved, the applicant will be notified by SMS message and can then apply for an Armenian passport.
