Exchange an Adult's Passport (16 Years Old and Above) Abroad

To exchange an Armenian passport while abroad, one is required to visit the Armenian embassy or consulate in the respective country after scheduling an appointment. If you are unable to visit the embassy or consulate, identify yourself via video conferencing.

The passport is exchanged if:

  • The validity period has expired
  • The citizen has changed the data about him/her in the state population register that is included in the passport
  • The citizen has lost the passport
  • The passport contains incorrect data
  • The pages of the passport intended for affixing entry visas have been filled
  • The citizen has expressed such a desire

If a person is in a country with no Armenian embassy or consulate or in a remote location where it is impossible or difficult to contact the nearest Armenian embassy, ​​he or she can apply via video conference to exchange the passport of an Armenian citizen.

It is necessary to send an email to the email address [email protected], writing the applicant's first name, last name, and passport number in Latin letters in the subject line.

The following information must be included in the body of the letter:

  • Applicant's name, surname and patronymic
  • Date of birth
  • Passport number
  • Mobile phone number
  • Location (country, region, city)
  • Attach a copy or photo of the passport
    • In case of obtaining a passport for the first time, a foreign passport
    • In case of a minor, a birth certificate and copies or photos of the parents' passports
  • Convenient days and time range for conducting a video call, indicating the time zone

After the video conference, the documents required to obtain a passport for a citizen of the Republic of Armenia must be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia via postal service.

Requirements

To exchange a passport of a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, you need:

  • Be registered in the State Population Register.
  • When registering a place of residence (address registration), a person's data about their place of residence is recorded in the State Population Register.

Required Documents

It is necessary to submit to the relevant RA embassy or consulate:

  • Application for obtaining a passport
  • 4 photos measuring 35x45 mm
  • The passport to be exchanged and a copy of its 2-3rd pages
  • In the case of male citizens, the military record book and copies of all its pages, a certificate of military registration or a document on deferment and its copy
  • A receipt for payment of the state duty

Additional Documents Required

In some cases, when applying for a passport exchange, a person may be required to provide additional documents, in particular:

In case of loss of passport:

  • Declaration of loss of passport
  • 4 photos measuring 35x45 mm
  • If available, provide a copy of the lost passport

In the case of conscription (male citizens aged 18-55):

  • The military booklet.

If there is a change in data or inaccuracy in the entries in the passport:

  • The document on the basis of which the change or correction of data, the elimination of inaccuracies in records, and its copy should be made.

Payment Amount and Procedure

If you apply via video conference, you must pay 90,000 AMD to exchange your passport. Payment must be made online.

You must also pay for individual postal delivery. The fee for this service is 12,500 - 20,500 AMD, depending on the country. Payment for postal delivery must be made online.

Delivery Time and Procedure

The new passport is issued within 2-3 months after applying.

The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia sends the passport by personal postal delivery to the address in the foreign country specified by the applicant.

After sending the passport, the applicant is sent a tracking number of the postal item via e-mail, through which it is possible to track the progress of the item online.
