Register the Marriage of Foreign Citizens
Foreign citizens can officially register their marriage in Armenia.
Both partners must be physically present in Armenia to register the marriage, but the application can be submitted through an authorized representative.
Requirements
One of the partners must visit the Civil Status Acts Registration Agency (commonly known as ZAGS) at their place of registration or residence (if they have proof of residence). The application and required documents must be submitted there.
Required Documents
To register a marriage, the following documents are needed:
- A joint written application from both partners
- A certificate confirming the absence of a prior marriage, issued by the relevant foreign authority
- Copies of passports, translated into Armenian and notarized
- If previously married, a document proving the termination of the previous marriage (must be apostilled)
- If necessary, any additional documents in accordance with international conventions
If Applying Through an Authorized Representative
The authorized person must also submit:
- A notarized application completed by the marrying partner, which includes:
- Full name, date and place of birth, citizenship, residence, and passport details of both partners,
- Optional details: nationality, education, place of employment,
- Marital status before this marriage,
- The surname the partners will use after marriage,
- The preferred date for marriage registration,
- Whether the couple wants a ceremonial registration,
- Request for an expedited registration, if applicable.
Payment Amount and Procedure
- Standard marriage registration is free of charge.
- A ceremonial marriage registration can cost up to 60,000 AMD, depending on the chosen service package.
Delivery Period and Procedure
Marriage registration takes place on the date specified in the joint application. It can be scheduled no earlier than the next business day after submission and no later than six months from the application date.
