Register the marriage of foreign citizens
Foreign citizens can officially register their marriage in Armenia.
To register the marriage in Armenia, both partners must be physically present. However, an authorized representative can submit the marriage registration application beforehand.
How to apply?
- Go to the Civil Status Acts Registration Agency (Civil Registry Office/ZAGS) at the place of residence or registration of one of the people getting married.
-
If you are applying at the office of your place of residence, bring a document that proves you live there.
-
Submit your application and bring the required documents listed below.
Required documents
To register a marriage, you should present the following documents:
-
a joint written application from both partners,
-
a certificate confirming that neither partner is currently married, issued by the relevant foreign authority,
-
copies of the partners' passports, translated into Armenian and notarized,
-
if previously married, a document confirming the termination of the previous marriage (apostilled),
-
if applicable, additional documents required under international conventions.
If applying through an authorized representative
The authorized representative must also submit:
- A notarized application for marriage registration completed by one of the marrying partners, which should include the following information:
- the full names, date and place of birth, citizenship, residence address, and passport details of both partners,
- optional details: the applicant's nationality, education, place of employment,
- marital status before this marriage,
- the surname the partners will use after marriage,
- the preferred date for marriage registration,
- note about a ceremonial registration, if the couple wants it,
- request for an expedited registration, if applicable.
Payment amount and procedure
Official marriage registration is free of charge.
However, if the partners want, they can have a ceremonial marriage registration. In that case, there are certain fees which should be paid while applying for the marriage registration. The fee can vary depending on the location or date of the registration.
Payment can be made online through the E-payments system:
- 20,000 AMD – if the ceremony takes place at the Civil Status Acts Registration Office or another location designated by the agency (make the payment via this link),
- 40,000 AMD – if the ceremony takes place at a location chosen by the couple (make the payment via this link),
- 60,000 AMD – if the ceremony takes place at a location chosen by the couple outside working hours and/or on non-working days (make the payment via this link).
After making the payment, you must submit the payment receipt.
Delivery period and procedure
Marriage registration is carried out on the date mentioned in the partners' joint application. It can be scheduled no earlier than the next working day after the application submission and no later than 6 months from the application date.
