In this guide, you will find all the information you need about importing goods into Armenia.

Some goods are prohibited from being imported into Armenia.
Some goods are allowed to be imported into Armenia in limited quantities.
Imports are carried out by shipping companies, which may offer different delivery conditions.
Goods imported into Armenia must be declared and cleared through customs.

If you are moving to Armenia for permanent residence, you can also import your personal property without paying customs fees.

How to Import Goods?

Whether you recently moved to Armenia and plan to import your personal belongings or currently reside in Armenia and want to import items for personal use, you should follow these steps.

Importing Personal Goods when Moving to Armenia

If you repatriate to Armenia, you can move your personal belongings to Armenia without customs duty. To do so, you should have either RA citizenship or special or permanent residency in Armenia.

When repatriating to Armenia, you can move your belongings to Armenia without customs duty if:

you have RA citizenship or RA special or permanent residence status,
you have been absent from Armenia for at least 1280 days during the previous 5 years,
you have not previously used this privilege, i.e., you have not moved your belongings to Armenia without customs duty.

The following items for personal use can be imported into Armenia without customs duty:

Household and personal appliances - maximum 3 of each type, such as refrigerators, TVs, washing machines.
1 full set of each type of furniture (bedroom, kitchen, living room).
1 personal vehicle (car, motorcycle, trailer) if it was your sole property in your previous country of residence, purchased and registered in your name at least 6 months before import.
Other personal items and household goods without quantity limits (clothing, tableware, books, etc.).

Attention

You can only import items of your or your family's personal use. The items should not be new, and therefore, they should not have factory packaging or labeling.

When repatriating, to move your belongings to Armenia you should:

check your citizenship or residency status - you should have either RA citizenship or special or permanent residency in Armenia,
Check if your items qualify for importing without customs duty,
Prepare the documents to confirm you are a new repatriate and submit them to the RA police for confirmation,
Prepare the documents for the goods you are shipping - shipping lists, waybills, and information about address rules,
Send the proof of residency and shipping documents to the customs,
Wait for the customs' approval and collect your items.

Restrictions on Personal Imports

Importing certain goods into Armenia is prohibited or severely restricted, mainly for safety, health, and environmental reasons.

There are several groups of goods prohibited from being imported into the Republic of Armenia:

Weapons and ammunition
Narcotics and psychotropic substances
Explosives and radioactive materials
Dangerous chemicals
Wild animals and plants

Note that each transportation company may have its own list of prohibited items for import, such as perfumes and cigarettes.

It is recommended that you verify the conditions and restrictions for importing goods from your respective transportation company before engaging in the import process.

The maximum allowed weight for importing goods for personal use is 31 kilograms, and the maximum allowed value is the equivalent of 200 EUR in AMD. Should imports exceed these limits, it will be necessary to clear the goods and pay the appropriate duties.

Transportation Companies

Goods are imported into Armenia by air, land, and sea.

Choose one of the available transportation companies (e.g., Globing, Onex). Register by providing:

Passport or ID card
Phone number
Email address

Order your goods through the shipping company's app or website. Once your purchase is complete, you will receive a tracking number for your order.

Use the tracking number to monitor your parcel's location and estimate its arrival time in Armenia.

Upon arrival in Armenia, your parcel is stored in the transportation company's warehouse for 180 days, free of charge. If not picked up within this period, you will have to pay an additional storage fee determined by the transportation company.

Customs Clearance and Goods Declaration

Imported goods are cleared at the Western Customs Office, located at Zvartnots Airport.

The member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union—Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan—form a single customs territory and operate under a unified set of customs regulations.

The free movement of goods within the EAEU eliminates the need for customs duties when transporting goods between member states.

In countries outside the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), distinct customs clearance procedures apply for goods. For example, importing goods from China typically involves paying established customs duties.

Customs Clearance Stages

Customs clearance of goods consists of 5 stages:

Entry into the customs control area
Preliminary inspection by a customs inspector
Formalization
Payment
Release

There are cases where goods imported into the Republic of Armenia are immediately transferred to transportation companies upon entering the customs control area. In such cases, no further inspection, declaration, or payment of customs duties is required.

If the value of each item arriving in the Republic of Armenia in the name of an individual does not exceed 200 EUR and the weight does not exceed 31 kg, then there is no need to pay customs duties.

If the weight of the imported item does not exceed 31 kg and its value exceeds 200 EUR, a 15% customs duty is imposed on the part exceeding 200 EUR.

If the weight of the imported item exceeds 31 kg, customs duties must be paid at 15% of the entire value of the item or 2 EUR for each kg exceeding 31 kg.

You can pay customs duties through banks and payment terminals. The transportation company will inform you about the payment process.

To simplify the process of customs payments and declaration of goods, you can contact brokerage companies.

When the shipment arrives in Armenia and is inspected by a customs inspector, additional documents may be requested. In this case, the customs inspector contacts the representatives of the transportation companies.

The transportation companies, in turn, inform individuals that their shipment has arrived within the customs territory of Armenia and about the additional documents necessary to pick up the shipment. Alternatively, the individual can use brokerage services for customs clearance, declaration, and duty payment.

Goods Declaration

Goods declaration is necessary to ensure the legal circulation of goods, calculate taxes and duties, and maintain trade statistics.

Goods declaration is a customs process where the individual officially informs customs about the imported goods.

The goods declaration includes:

Importer details
Product name and description
Quantity
Value and currency
Customs code (HS code)
Country of origin of the product
Customs rates and taxes

To declare goods, it is necessary to submit the following documents to the customs service:

The importer's passport or identification card
The invoice
The bill of lading or transport document
The certificate of origin of the goods (if applicable)
