Customs Clearance Roadmap

Cars can be imported to Armenia by air, land, or sea. When transported by sea, the vehicle typically reaches a neighboring country first. From there, it is delivered to Armenia by truck.

Selecting the right shipping company is important, as they will be entrusted with a valuable asset. When making a choice, it is necessary to pay attention to whether the truck body is in sufficient condition to deliver the car safely and whether the carrier places the vehicle firmly enough on the body and will ensure reliable movement throughout the journey.

Upon arrival in Armenia, imported cars are cleared at the Northern Customs Office, which is located in Gyumri, Shirak Province.

What documents are required for car customs clearance?

Passenger Declaration

The passenger declaration includes the vehicle details: year, make, purchase, and sale receipts. If the vehicle was purchased at an auction, it is also necessary to submit the auction participation data, such as printed photos of the vehicle purchased from the auction website.

Customs Entry Order (CEO)

The customs entry order is the financial aspect of the vehicle clearance process. During this process, the customs officer calculates the customs fees, which depend on the vehicle's year of manufacture and engine capacity.

Payment Stage

What payments are made when clearing a car?

After filling out the customs entry order, the customs officer will inform you of the customs fees for the vehicle. They will hand over the customs entry order, after which you need to approach a bank operating in the customs area and make the necessary payments.

In particular:

In the Collection System

After making the necessary payments at the local bank and receiving the payment receipts, these receipts should be submitted to the collections coordination department. The department will then verify whether the payments were made correctly and properly transferred to the correct accounts.

Car Drop-off

After checking the payments in the toll system, it is necessary to take a queue ticket on-site or book an online appointment and present the payment receipts to the inspector carrying out the vehicle release process, who, in turn, after checking the necessary transactions, will issue a temporary license plate for the vehicle, if the vehicle registration will be carried out later.

The issued license plate will have a 15-day validity period, and in case of failure to register the vehicle within the specified time limits, a fine of 20,000 AMD is imposed.

After completing these actions, it is necessary to approach the special parking lot for vehicles where imported vehicles are parked.

Parking in the Customs Area

An imported car can be left in a special parking lot at the customs office for 4 months. For each day of temporary storage of the car, a parking fee is required, the amount of which depends on the weight of the car. For a vehicle weighing up to 1 ton, a daily parking fee of 1,000 AMD is set, and for each subsequent ton, the fee increases by 300 AMD.

If the vehicle is not cleared within 4 months and remains parked in a special lot at the customs office during that time, a fine of 50,000 AMD will be required.
