How to apply?

The physical presence of the couple is mandatory for the marriage registration; however, the application may be submitted through an authorized representative.

Requirements

You must visit the Civil Status Acts Registration Agency (commonly known by the Russian acronym ZAGS) corresponding to the registered address of one of the parties (or the place of residence, provided there is a certificate confirming residence at that location). There, you will submit the application and the required documents.

Required Documents

To register a marriage, the following documents must be submitted:

• a joint written application from the couple,
• copies of passports.
• if either party was previously married: a divorce certificate, a legally binding court judgment of divorce, or a spouse's death certificate (if the underlying document is missing from the unified electronic registry).

If the application is submitted through an authorized representative, the representative must also provide:

• an application completed by the marrying party and certified by a notary, containing:

  • full name (including patronymic), date and place of birth, citizenship, residence, and ID serial/number for both parties.

  • optional details: nationality, education, and place of employment.

  • marital status prior to the marriage.

  • the chosen last name after the marriage registration.

  • the selected date for the registration.

  • preference for a formal/solemn ceremony.

  • preference for an expedited registration period.

Payment Amount and Procedure

State registration of marriage is free of charge.

Delievery Time and Procedure

The state registration of the marriage takes place on the day specified in the joint application. The couple can choose any date starting from the next working day after the application is submitted, up to a period of 6 months.
